What it covers
The dataset records small residential planning applications and their outcomes.
Applications are classified by location, scheme type, conservation status, density, transport accessibility, determination time and decision route. Where the source documents are available, refusal reasons and officer recommendations are also recorded: 4,532 of the 5,436 refused schemes carry coded reasons, read from the decision notice and classified to a published thirteen-category taxonomy.
The same method is used in every borough.
What it does not tell you
The dataset describes past decisions. It does not predict the outcome of an individual application, and no approval probability is offered for any site or scheme.
Some fields are less complete than others because boroughs publish different documents in different ways. Refusal reasons are coded for 83% of refusals. Building height is recorded on a minority of records and skews towards refusals. Coverage is shown wherever it affects a finding.
Decisions reach the London Datahub with a lag, so the most recent months are incomplete and will fill in rather than stay as published.
